Garden Consultation
Urban Eatin' will use bikes and bike carts to get around Winnipeg whenever possible.
First, you will need to call us at 770-2204, email us, or fill out our new online Consultation Request form. After all, every yard space is different and it is important for us to come to grips with what you would like us to do for you and establish what we have to work with. For example:
- Is your yard shady? Is there much sun exposure? At what times of day?
- Do we need to get rid of any existing barriers (e.g. sod, gravel, etc)?
- Do you have your own vegetable seeds you’d like to work with?
- Are you about to have intensive landscaping work done on your property?
We will then establish what it is you would like to do or can do with your yard space — want a vegetable garden? Herb garden? Berry bushes or fruit trees?
Consultations are up to a 1 hour and will only cost you $50.
Garden Design
A personalized garden design will be made for you.
Secondly, we will create a personalized design based on our conversation and initial survey. Our garden designs helps customize your own garden space here in Winnipeg’s unique climate. You may wish for a very productive vegetable and fruit garden, or a low-maintenance aesthetic herb garden. You will have a chance to review the garden design prior any installation, in order to ensure it suits all of your needs.
Garden Installation & Low-Impact Landscaping

Thirdly, we will come to your house and implement the design into your yard – using low-impact landscaping (primarily people-power). We will:
- Source your materials from local, organic or natural suppliers (e.g. topsoil, compost, seeds, plants, etc);
- Prepare the site and install what you need;
- Plant your vegetables, herbs, shrubs, etc;
*Note: We love to source you the best and most environmental project materials, but any extra related costs are borne by you, the customer.
We may refer to this as low-impact landscaping – we do not offer large-scale mechanically-intensive landscaping (such as projects requiring a backhoe), which often leaves the soil in poor and compacted condition. We would, however, love to be consulted prior to a large-scale project, and help you plan ahead for an ideal garden space once work has been completed.
Gardening Maintenance, Weeding & ‘Garden Sitting’
You may not have the time, resources or know-how to maintain your own garden, so you can call us to help with your summer and fall maintenance, care, clean-up and even vegetable and fruit harvesting. We will also share some tips and instructions with you if you want to begin learning. You may also be leaving your garden’s side for an extended period of time, and will need someone trustworthy to ‘garden sit’ for you. We can do that too.
Garden Accessories & Greenhouse Construction
We build custom composters, planter boxes, trellises, coldframes, etc. Custom personal/backyard sized greenhouses are also available. Please inquire for details, and visit our garden accessories page for more info.
