Creating a new vegetable garden in Winnipeg, Manitoba

  • Establish a basic, productive space for you to grow your own healthy, tasty vegetables this spring, summer and fall
  • Focus on growing staple vegetables in your garden, such as carrots, beans, peas, beats, squash, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and herbs

  • For those who don’t have access to much of a useable or productive yard, but are still interested in growing your own food, we can help you establish a productive garden using above-ground containers (e.g. pots, raised beds, etc)
  • Focus on growing vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, and culinary herbs, salad greens, etc.

Culinary Herb Garden

  • We can help you establish a productive herb garden to use in all of your food preparation endeavors
  • Focus on growing sage, thyme, basil, oregano, parsley, dill, mint, lemon balm, catnip, anise and much more
  • These can be larger or smaller projects, tailored to your space

Canning and preserves garden (aka ‘the salsa garden’)

Beginnings of a new garden.

  • For those interested in growing plants that can be enjoyed during the summer and fall months, but can also be canned or preserved for use during the cold winter months (e.g. salsa, pickles, etc)
  • Focus on growing common canning vegetables (e.g. tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, beets, etc) and herbs (e.g. dill, parsley, basil, oregano, etc)
  • Offer canning and preserving training workshops in fall!

Permaculture garden

  • In our co-op, we have a lot of experience in ‘permaculture’ design, which we would like to share with you and your space
  • These more holistic designs entail a longer-term commitment to developing a greater proportion of yard space as to make the whole system as productive and efficient as possible
  • Focus on native plant species, perennial (and edible) flowers, herbs and grasses, staple and non-staple vegetables, shrubs, fruit trees
  • Able to go beyond gardening and work on related projects such as on-site compost, water storage and yardscaping.
